Toyo tires in Canada

Toyo Tires has established itself as a leading tire brand and an innovator in tire science while becoming a major player in motorsport racing tires.

Toyo Tires was founded in Japan in 1945 and opened its first Canadian subsidiary just outside of Vancouver in 1982.

Toyo Tires has established itself as a leading tire brand and an innovator in tire science while becoming a major player in motorsport racing tires.

We take a look at three well-regarded Toyo Tire lines below, the Toyo Celsius/Celsius CUV, the Extensa A/S and the Toyo Open Country A/T III.

TOYO CELCIUS/CELCIUS CUV

In this section we’ll look at the same all-weather tire for different vehicles, the Toyo Celsius for passenger vehicles and Toyo Celsius CUV for, you guessed it, CUVs and SUVs. Both are classified as Toyo all-weather tires which is not to be confused with an all-season tire.

Toyo all-weather tires that earn the tire industry’s three-peak mountain snowflake symbol are certified for use in severe weather and road conditions and provide better traction on snow, ice and slush than all-season tires. That said, depending on where you live in Canada and how extreme your winters are, it may be advisable to use a set of dedicated Toyo winter tires.

For drivers in areas with milder winters, Toyo all-weather tires are engineered for year-round use. That means they are designed to handle hot dry surfaces, wet roads and slippery winter driving with the same stability and comfort.

Some other benefits of Toyo’s Celsius and Celsius CUV all-weather tires include:

  • High sipe density on the inside tread that gives it more biting edges on ice and snow.
  • A lower sipe density on the outside tread for more effective performance on wet and dry roads.
  • Multi-wave siping to promote evenly distributed tire wear and reduce road noise while decreasing stopping distances.
  • Snow claws with jagged edges for enhanced traction on snow and increased tread block rigidity that improves traction on wet and icy surfaces.
  • Slush grooves designed to push out water, slush and snow from the Celsius’s contact patch and reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

EXTENSA A/S

If you are looking for an all-season winter tire because you don’t get a lot of ice and snow in your winter months or because you have a set of dedicated winter tires, Toyo’s Extensa A/S is designed to give you bang for your buck.

The Extensa A/S focuses on increasing tire life without compromising on performance and is made for passenger vehicles like coupes, sedans and minivans.

Some of the Extensa A/S’s features include:

  • Dual steel belts and a polyester cord body for strength and longevity.
  • A symmetric pattern that aids in traction and handling and supports cross rotating of your Toyo tires to promote even treadwear, which further increases their lifespan.
  • Wide shoulder ribs and multi-wave sipes that also add to the Extensa A/S’s durability and traction on light snow, water and ice.
  • Variable pitch channels and circumferential grooves for pushing out water and reducing the risk of hydroplaning.
  • A centre block designed to increase ride comfort and reduce noise.

TOYO OPEN COUNTRY A/T III

One look at Toyo’s Open Country A/T III can tell you almost everything you need to know about it. The A/T stands for all-terrain and is all business in that department.

Made for Jeeps, pickups, SUVs and crossovers, the Open Country A/T III aims for both on- and off-road performance. Industry-rated for use in extreme weather conditions, it carries the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol as proof.

Other features of the open Country A/T III include:

  • Dual off-road steel belts encased in two-ply polyester and a nylon reinforcing ply for extra durability and stability at high speeds.
  • A damage-resistant tread compound engineered to withstand cuts and chips and a block design that ejects stones from the tread to prevent drilling.
  • Staggered shoulder lugs for better traction off-road and on ice and snow.
  • 3D multi-wave sipes and increased lateral grooves to assist with traction on slippery, bad weather surfaces.
  • A more evenly distributed void area that increases block rigidity that multitasks by providing handling and stability on dry surfaces while reducing road noise and increasing ride comfort.
